Rollout with software deployment
Your deployment tool installs the Edge Connector on every device. Nobody signs in to the Connector, and nara assigns each device to the person who uses it.
Roll out
Section titled “Roll out”-
In nara, open Admin > Edge Connector and choose Install without sign-in. Select a validity and choose Create token. A rollout that runs for months needs 1 year or No expiry. nara shows the token only once.
-
Download the Windows MSI (x64 or ARM64).
-
Let your deployment tool run this command as System on the devices:
msiexec /i nara-edge-connector-<version>-windows-x64.msi /qn NARA_TOKEN=<setup token>
Microsoft Intune
Section titled “Microsoft Intune”- Pack the MSI with the Microsoft Win32 Content Prep Tool and add a Windows app (Win32) with the packed file.
- Install command: the command above. Install behavior: System. Detection rule: MSI; Intune fills in the product code.
- Assign the app as Required to your device groups.
baramundi Management Suite
Section titled “baramundi Management Suite”- Create an application from the MSI and add
NARA_TOKEN=<setup token>to its installation parameters. - Assign the deployment job to your devices.
Microsoft Configuration Manager
Section titled “Microsoft Configuration Manager”- Create an application with the deployment type Windows Installer (*.msi file) and set the installation program to the command above.
- Deploy it as Required to a device collection.
Other tools
Section titled “Other tools”Any tool that runs the command as System works. Group Policy software installation cannot pass NARA_TOKEN; run the command from a computer startup script instead.
Assignment
Section titled “Assignment”- Each device becomes a Connector of the organization under Admin > Edge Connector.
- The Connector reports the Windows user signed in at the device. nara assigns the device to the nara user whose email equals that user’s sign-in name, for example
max.mustermann@example.com. - A device without a matching nara user shows Not assigned · sign-in name. nara assigns it automatically as soon as that user exists in nara.
- When another person signs in at the device, the assignment moves to that person.
- The assigned person can use the device in chat. Tools that work in a user session run for the person signed in at the device, without Connect Windows account.
Revoking a token stops new installations. Installed devices keep working. Before a token expires, create a new one and update the install command in your deployment tool.
